Mock Draft #1

leave a comment »

With the Keeper Lists turned in and the draft less than 1 month away lets turn to our first of many SABLE Mock Drafts.

1st Pick: San Francisco Giants – Albert Pujols – Pujols by far is the best overall player in the draft.

2nd Pick: Florida Marlins – Hanley Ramirez – Boston only needs to draft 4 spots this season.  She has Jeter, but Ramirez is better defensively and Jeter could always DH.

3rd Pick: Minnesota Twins –  Chone Figgins – Minnesota is on turf and figgins is the best defensive 3b in the draft.

4th Pick: New York Yankees – Mark Teixeira – New York has the choice between Helton & Teixeira.  The Yankee factor is the edge.

5th Pick: Philadelphia Phillies – Ichiro Suzuki – A/-2  Sures up Philly outfield

6th Pick – New York Yankees – Joe Nathan – allows Phil Hughes to move to starting rotation and is set-up man for Rivera

7th Pick – Oakland A’s – Bobby Abreu – Team needs offense and Abreu provides that.  Also -2 in outfiled allows Damon to DH.

8th Pick – St Louis – Cliff Lee – St Louis needs starting pitching and Lee is the best out there

9th Pick – New York Mets – Chipper Jones – best 3B available

10th Pick – Tampa Bay – Raphael Soriano – 638-945 K vs RH; hello closer or best commodity if playing for next year.

11th Pick – San Diego – Todd Helton – with only a 1st & 2nd in the draft you need to fill a need quickly and effectively.  Helton does just that.
