Tie Breaker – Head to Head records in the NL

leave a comment »

Team vs Wash vs FL Vs StL vs ATL vs SD vs Wash vs FL vs STL vs ATL vs SD vs NL
Wash 1-2 2-1 3-0 3-0 1-2 wk 18 1-2 2-1 13-8
Florida 2-1 1-2 3-0 3-0 2-1 1-2 wk 18 2-1 14-7
StL 1-2 2-1 1-2 2-1 wk18 2-1 3-0 1-2 12-9
FL vs WSH 4-2
StL vs FL 4-2
WSH vs StL 2-1

As it currently stands Washington (28-20) leads Florida (29-22) by 1/2 game.  St Louis is 26-22 and 2 games behind Washington.

Washington & St Louis each have 6 games to play. Florida 3.  Washington and St Louis play each other week 18.

Washington wins the division: If Washington wins 5 of 6 games. If Washington wins 4 of 6 (in any combination), Washington wins the division if Florida only wins 2 of 3 vs Atlanta.  Washington loses the head to head tie breaker vs Florida if they end in a two-way tie with the same record.

Florida wins the division: Florida can only win the division in two ways. 1: Outright with the best record. 2: In a two-way tiebreaker with Washington.  Florida loses the two-way tie breaker with Atlanta and if their is a 3 way tie for the division (which would mean STL defeated Washington wk 18) STL would win the division.

St Louis wins the division: St Louis wins the division if he wins his remaining six games and finishes with 32 wins.  This would mean that Washington lost at least 3 and STL would hold the tie breaker vs FL.

Tie Breaker – Head to Head records in the AL

leave a comment »

Since all three AL teams have already clinched a playoff spot no tie breaker games will be played.  Remember tie breaker games are only for if it eliminates a team from playoff contention.

Team vs Bos vs Seattle vs Tampa Bay vs New York vs Oakland vs Bos vs Seattle vs Tampa Bay vs New York vs Oakland vs AL
Boston 2-1 3-0 2-1 3-0 1-2 wk 18 wk 17 3-0 14-4
Seattle 1-2 1-2 3-0 2-1 2-1 2-1 3-0 2-1 16-8
Tampa Bay 0-3 2-1 2-1 3-0 wk 18 1-2 2-1 3-0 13-8
Bos vs Sea 3-3
Sea vs TB 3-3
Bos vs TB 3-0

Remaining Games

Boston 32 wins: 3 vs NY, 3 vs Tampa Bay

Seattle 29 wins: 3 vs Washington, 3 vs San Diego

Tampa 27 wins: 3 vs St Louis, 3 vs Boston.

If Boston wins at least 3 of his 6 remaining games he guarantees himself the #1 spot in the AL.  He would improve his record vs AL teams to 17+ wins which would win any AL tie breaker scenario.

If Boston only wins 2 remaining games & Seattle goes 5-1. The teams would be tied for the #1 spot. The head to head & divisional records would be the same. ACK! Please don’t happen.  Next MLB tie breaker is a pain in the butt.

Screw it.  Just play the games.  Boston win 4 and clinch outright. LOL

Good Luck to all teams involved.

Wow what a week #15

leave a comment »

In week 15 Boston & Seattle clinched playoff spots.  San Diego & Oakland have been eliminated from any championship hopes.  Tampa Bay will be in with their next win or next New York loss.

The NL division is still up in the air following St Louis’ sweep over Atlanta.

Its going to be a great final 3 weeks of the season.

Tie Breakers

leave a comment »

There will be two days off following the end of the season.  If there are tie breaker games to be played, those games will take place during those two days.  If there is only the need for 1 tie breaker game, that game will take place on day #1 allowing the winning team to have a day of rest on day #2.  If two tie breaker games are needed, the first will take place on day 1 and the second will take place on day 2.  If a team needs to play two tie breaker games, that team WILL NOT receive any additional days of rest prior to the start of the playoffs.

If at the end of the season a tiebreaker game is needed to determine which team will represent each league in the #1 Pick Game that game will be played on Day 1.  The WINNER of that game will advance and represent their league in the #1 Pick Game on day #2.
