Clay Buchholtz will be the game #1 starting pitcher vs St Louis opposite Chris Carpenter.   Scott Baker or Sam LeCure will get the nod in game 2.  The bullpen will be strong with the addition of #5 starter Jeff Karstens, and dominant regulars Greg Holland, Jose Valverde, & saves leader (14) Ryan Madson.  Filling in situational roles will be Edgmer Escalona & Bill Bray.

Nyjer Morgan (.474 14RS) played his way onto the playoff roster and will bat leadoff.  Ian Kinsler has not found his stride yet offensively and John McDonald (.308 2HR) may get the start at 2nd base.

We’re only one day away from the 2012 SABLE Playoffs and here’s another prediction

NLDS Pick Game – St Louis @ Washington.

Projected starters game#1 Chris Carpenter (STL) vs Clay Buchholtz (WSH)

Washington finished the season 30-24.  St Louis finished 28-26.

Season series: Washington 4-2.

Game #1: Chris Carpenter lost only 1 game this season in week 17.  Clay Buchholtz (3-0) is the Nationals’ #1 starter who caught chicken pox and missed the second half of the season.  This is his first start since returning from injury.

Prediction Game 1: Washington rallies behind the return of their teammate and wins 4-1.

Game #2: Cliff Lee (STL) vs Sam LeCure (WSH).

Prediction Game 2: Cliff Lee is dominant, LeCure matches him pitch for pitch.  St Louis wins 1-0.

Game #3: Wandy Rodriguez (STL) vs Guillermo Moscoso (WSH)

Prediction game #3: This one comes down to the situations.  St Louis has only 1 clutch hitter, Washington has 7.  Clutch will nullify the late inning jam and Washington wins 4-3 and advances to face Florida next week.

We’re only a few days away from the 2012 SABLE Playoffs and here’s a prediction

#1 Pick Game – New York @ San Diego.

Projected starters Ivan Nova (NY) vs Justin Verlander (SD)

San Diego finished the season 17-34. New York finished 19-32.

Season series: New York 5-1.

San Diego’s best management decision all season was to skip Justin Verlander’s scheduled start in week 18, thus resting him specifically for this game.  New York, on the other hand, pitched #2 Stephen Strasburg & #1 Ian Kennedy games 2 & 3 week 18 vs Oakland.  Neither is available for the most meaningful game of the season.  The game to determine which team recieves the #1 Pick in next year’s draft.

My prediction…New York wins.  New York has the experience.  New York can win a slugfest or a pitcher’s duel.  New York’s strength in this game is his bullpen and I expect him to go to it early and often and pulling out all the stops.  The NY bullpen can match Justin Verlander pitch for pitch.

New York wins the game 2-1.
