#1 Pick Game – New York @ San Diego.

Projected starters Ivan Nova (NY) vs Justin Verlander (SD)

San Diego finished the season 17-34. New York finished 19-32.

Season series: New York 5-1.

San Diego’s best management decision all season was to skip Justin Verlander’s scheduled start in week 18, thus resting him specifically for this game.  New York, on the other hand, pitched #2 Stephen Strasburg & #1 Ian Kennedy games 2 & 3 week 18 vs Oakland.  Neither is available for the most meaningful game of the season.  The game to determine which team recieves the #1 Pick in next year’s draft.

My prediction…New York wins.  New York has the experience.  New York can win a slugfest or a pitcher’s duel.  New York’s strength in this game is his bullpen and I expect him to go to it early and often and pulling out all the stops.  The NY bullpen can match Justin Verlander pitch for pitch.

New York wins the game 2-1.
